Q: Cannot turn off incoming Apple Mail sound

I have OSx Yosemite 10.10. 5 and despite unchecking "play sound for notifications" in the notifications tab, I continue to have sound alerts for every mail coming in.

Does anyone know if this is a bug or is there another way to turn the sound off?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Far from expert, but this worked for me, but unfortunately also stopped my iphone from making a sound alert when messages would come in. But this might work for you.

Go to Syst preferences > Notifications > Then drag the app you don't want alerting to the "Not in notification center" box. This will stop all notifications from that app showing up on your desktop. You'll still get the emails, but it won't alert you on your computer.
