Font Book frozen with El Capitan

I have the shiney new El Capitan OS installed on my 2010 MBP and I now have many, many foreign languages fonts unnecessarily added to my computer and I can no longer access my Font Book to manage them, and all this font activity has bogged down my ability to work in my Adobe programs. When I try to access Font Book to remedy the problem I get the colorful wheel of death, requiring a Forced Quit. My hope is to 1) Open Font Book, 2) Remove all unneeded/unnecessary foreign languages, 3) Better control the availability of my preferred fonts. Can anyone please help? And, if I need to abandon Font Book altogether, please give me recommendations of the best Font Management style programs that have worked for you.

Thank you!!

Ditto, I have been having ridiculous issues with illustrator, bridge, etc. I opened font book and lo and behold, hundreds of new fonts, mostly foreign language, hindi, chinese, etc. i have been going one by one and disabling them. is there any easier way? what is going on here?

also...a lot of these fonts "Can't" be disabled or removed because it says OS X is using them. these are hindu fonts, etc...Is there some place to turn these off in the ox master preferences?? individually disabling is taking forever!
