MAC does not read my burned DVD-RW

Hello. Please help me with my problem. I have a DVD-RW burned by a friend that has a microsoft file written in it- an installation disk to be specific. My MacBook Pro used to read this same disc and I was able to install its content on that computer. But with my iMac, I always get a message "you've instered a blank DVD" everytime I put the disc in. Please help. I've been into different forums but I didn't find an answer. I really need to install its content on my iMac but the system insists that the disc is blank. PLEASE HELP. Thank you!

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
