Keep Data on iMAC

I am unable to keep Contacts, Calendar, Notes... on the iMAC when I close iCloud. I have checked boxes and unchecked boxes and still the data is not on the iMAC after exiting iCloud. I get so upset when a company messes with my computers data. I tried iCloud and do not want it.
