Error: iMessage is Inactive (on my iMac24) Check Network...Works fine on MBPro Laptops &iPhones

iMac 24" G9 I believe- OSX 10.11 El Capitan, 2.93 Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB Ram... iMessage was not working on last OSX either.
