El Capitan download staying in pause mode

How do you get El Capitan to continue downloading? It is sitting in my launchpad constantly just paused and will not continue downloading. It has been like this for 3 days now! Or how can I cancel the download and continue using what I had before? I use a brand new 2015 macbook pro.

Howdy P00kers,

It sounds like you cannot resume the Mac OS X 10.11 installer from the Mac App Store and it seems to be stuck. I would start by restarting the computer and trying again. This sounds simple, but it's where I would start.

If it persists after you restart the computer, I would next delete the El Capitan installer from your Applications folder, download it again from the Mac App Store, and install it again. There may have been something wrong with the installer when it was downloaded initially.

The attached steps explain how to download El Capitan again from the Purchased section of the Mac App Store.

Apps purchased via the Mac App Store

When purchased via the Mac App Store, apps are installed in the Applications folder. Icons for purchased apps are automatically placed in the current user's Dock. There is also a purchases tab in the Mac App Store where you can see all of your Mac App Store downloads.
