Google Search not working from address bar in Safari

Hi,

Since I updated to El Capitan I am no longer able to run Google search from the URL bar on Safari. Bing and the others work fine.

Notice that when I type "google analytics for apps" the following URL is generated:

https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=google+analytics+for+apps&i e=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

But nothing happens, the loading does not proceed. In Networks -> DNS I have not manually added any DNS Servers and Search Domains but some defaults are added (128. etc.).

Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Hi there, I also have this problem too. I have tried to turn off and remove all the extensions, reset safari, the issue persist. Now almost 80% of my search make on the address bar failed to connect to google, right after I key enter to initiate the search, the blue progress bar run a bit but remain at similar location for sometime , which is too long that I lose my patient and do something else, after a while when I return to that very tab running google search, safari said fail to connect blah blah blah.

I strongly believe this problem is related to google search only, since I have tried all other available search engine on safari, they all response swiftly but google one.

I am so happy to see two people experiencing the exact same issue as me and at the same time! I was going crazy.

I have spend hours on the web chat and on the phone support with Apple regarding this. Only a problem with safari, El Capitan, 10.11.1 latest updates.

This is seriously the worst experience I ever had after having used every single itteration of OS X.

Apple support ended up making me erase my hard drive and re-install El Capitan.
The problem remains! No Safari extensions, no DNS nonesense etc. The problems just appeared out of the blue and is probably linked to the latest El Capitan update.

I even spoke to Google phone support and also my internet provider.

The issue is an Apple issue. El Capitan is basically turning into a pile of unbearable bugs.

The last person I spoke to was an Apple Phone adviser and he advised me to install Mavericks instead! Haha what a joke...

So yeah, to summarize, Safari has become unusable and Apple wasted my time for hours and did not offer a solution to what I believe is a problem they created. I am writing this message from Firefox...

I am hoping someone will find a fix, my guess is it won't come from Apple as Quality Assurance is a thing of the past when it comes to OS X or iOS.

Have had the same intermittent problem with Google searches since I "upgraded" to El Capitan. Not an upgrade when your browser no longer works with Google. All other search engines work fine. Google Mail is also victim to this since the"upgrade". Have tried everything to clear it up but nothing works.

I am glad that I am not alone with this as I believe the problem is with the new OS. Apple admits nothing from my conversations with them. There was a reason I waited years to upgrade and I am sorry I did as nothing in this OS is better than what I was running. Now that everything revolves around "sharing" and the "cloud" basic functions and dependability take a back seat.

Same problem here with El Capitain. Soon going crazy...

Everything works in safari - except - sometimes - google sites, google search does not work. And the browser is just stuck. Then suddenly it works again. Very very annoying. When I use chrome as browser there is no problems..

I suspect some DNS related problem with safari

Hope this can be fixed. Im reluctant to use chrome as default browser.

I use

OSX El Capitain

Imac Late 2013

3.2 Ghz

Best regards

I'm experiencing the exact same problem and this only happened when I upgraded to El Capitain.

Google searches from iOS work fine. Yahoo and Bing searches from Safari on El Capitain work fine.

As soon as I try a Google search from the address bar in Safari (El Capitain) , it stalls for a while and then says it can't connect.

I have to keep trying over and over, after a while it starts to work.

Apple Support claims they have received no complaints about this.

No help. Very annoying. Next time I'll wait a while before I upgrade until all bugs are found and fixed.

Same here. I actually forgot to mention that in my last post. I notice that if I turn wi-fi off and then back on, Google searching then works with no problem, but if I put my computer to sleep for a while, when wake it back up - same Google search problem. I then have to turn off wi-fi and then turn it back on again. When I do that, it works as long as my computer doesn't go to sleep.

I am having this problem in Yosemite - it appears to be a Safari Version 9.0.2 (10601.3.9) problem. I click a result from a url bar google search and it fails while trying to load what appears to be a google referenced page. I never usually see a google reference in the url bar - I just go directly to the line page/file. I don't know if that's odd or has anything to do with the problem. It is irritating...

El Capitan issues all over the place:

EL CAPITAN ISSUE 1: Google.co.uk and Google.com and Safari search bar (using google) NOT working.

I reverted back to El Capitan 10.11.0 (from 10.11.2) to check if there was a difference from before as I thought maybe updates were installed and broke my browsing experience.

I did a complete erase and install. Everything GONE. For the second time! Sadly, the problem persists.

I prevented Safari from being updated to see if it could be due to later updates. But still, google searches never or rarely load. I DO NOT get an error message. I simply get a blank page with the blue progress bar not progressing. Just a reminder that Apple advised me to re-install Mavericks instead! 😟😢😕

Others are affected here:

EL CAPITAN ISSUE 2: having to press the return key twice to launch a search in the Safari omnibar.

The weird thing is that I have to press the return key twice to do a search, so something is really not right with El Capitan and Safari.

See: "Have to press enter twice to search in safari 9"

https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/3nxk51/have_to_press_enter_twice_to_search _in_safari_9/

EL CAPITAN ISSUE 3: TextEdit

I also noticed that the TextEdit app preferences don't get saved. I like to have plain text by default but TextEdit only shows me rich text formatting. Very annoying. It is an issue that has also been reported elsewhere.

Please see this link: https://github.com/mathiasbynens/dotfiles/issues/606

"The "plain text by default" and encoding settings written to com.apple.TextEdit.plist don't seem to take effect on OS X 10.11.1. New files are still being created in Rich Text mode, and TextEdit preferences UI shows "Automatic" as the encoding setting for both reading and writing, whereas I would expect to see "UTF-8"."

OS X El Capitan is by far the worst update Apple ever released. It is plagued with bugs and I am tired to be their guinea pig.

So I can confirm I am plagued by these issues on 10.11.0 and 10.11.1 and 10.11.2.

My internet provider is EE (UK) and I am using 4G broadband with a Huawei e5573s-320.

Everything works fine with google on iPhone and iPad connected via wifi also, and google works fine with firefox, chrome and opera.

El Capitan and Safari 9.0 are beta software and Apple doesn't care if our user experience gets ruined because of their need to break features in order to push other features that are poorly implemented.

Notice how the link I provided are from posts dating from the past month or so. It is definitely El Capitan.

Very sad Apple customer here, and what a waste of my time 😢

I will submit these as feedback to apple. Please do the same. Let them know El Capitan is a horrible piece of software.
