same playlist different on phone than viewed on Mac

iPhone 5 iOS 8.4, MacBook Pro iTunes 12

Playlists in my phone list one set of songs that when I view in iTunes, when plugged into Mac and viewed under Device, show another set of songs. The playlist has been edited in the phone, but when I plug in, shouldn't I see the same songs under Device?
