Back and forward buttons disappeared.

Back and forward buttons disappeared.

My back and forward buttons in Safari 9.0 disappeared halfway through the morning today. Here's what I've already tried:

1. Customize Toolbar - the back and forward buttons are already there, but I tried dragging them on again and clicked "done",

2. under View, View Toolbar doesn't appear at all,

3. quit Safari and restart,

4. went to Library -> Preferences and got rid of com.apple.safari.plist and restarted.

I still don't have forward and back tools. I have to believe that I accidentally pressed some key combination that got rid of them, but can't figure anything out. I'm currently running OS 10.10.5.

Try restoring from backup.

View > Customize Toolbar.

See if you can drag the the default set to the toolbar.

That includes the back and forward arrows.
