El Capitan Office 2011 Microsoft fix 14.5.6 Did NOT Fix Issues

Good Afternoon:

I installed El Capitan on Oct 1st. Since then NONE of my Office 2011 applications will start. Each time I try and start Outlook, Word, Excel or Powerpoint I get the Microsoft Error Reporting window. Below is the information being reported for each application. I just finished installing the latest Microsoft fix 14.5.6.150930 and still have the same issues.

I really really need help with this as it is affecting my business.

Respectfully;

Mark K.

I also have office 2011 on yosemite and up dated to 10.11 but with no issues. Also installed the latest update and find office to be more responsive. Ive had issues before and found that reinstalling office solved the issues in the past. Also run disk utility - start in safe - let us know if anything helps.

Gave up on trying to fix my user account and re-created a new user account. All Office products including Outlook work. Used the Outlook database utility to create a new database from my old outlook email account. Then copied the new database into /Users/<Username>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/New Main Identity.

I then logged out and logged in with my new user account started Outlook with the option key down to bring up the database utility. I then selected the New Main Identity and did a rebuild on it. Once completed Outlook worked. I did have to add in several email accounts that disappeared with the installation of El Capitan.

If upgrading your OS was the catalyst for this issue MS may feel Office 2011 is not the problem and will not be fixed, it's up to Apple to fix the software that broke theirs if Apple so decided.

Read the support base from Microsoft, this patch fixed ONE THING and ONE THING ONLY.

If your issues was not mentioned in the fix how would it be resolved by software that never intended to repair the problems you're experiencing?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3098229

The hang situation that occurs during an account sync operation in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 is fixed. This problem is described in KB 3098396.

I understand you're frustrated but this is not the first time a piece of software stopped working because of an OS update. Have an escape plan, have a backup, don't expect software to work in on OS when you upgrade to another. This is the rule, not the exception. 2011 is 5 years old, they won't support it forever, they have 365 and 2016 out for the mac and thats where they will concentrate their efforts - and I'm sure 365 is living on borrowed time at this point.

Office 2011 with the latest El Capitan, 10.11.1, is still not working right. And I have installed the latest Microsoft update 14.5.6 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3098229).

(I'm using a late 2008 macbook pro).

Here are the symptoms...

- Word only partially readable. Need to convert to Pages in order to see everything.

- Likewise Powerpoint: some copy comes out fine, some translated into dingbats and/or random geometric shapes. Pictures mostly unviewable. See screenshot. Again, I need to convert to Keynote to see everything - which is not very practical when the rest of the world is on Microsoft office.

Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?

Anyone know of a remedy? All tips gratefully received...

By reinstalling Office 2011 you might be able to address these problems on your Mac.

0. Be sure you have a good BU of your Mac

1. Find your Office 2011 DVD with the product key #.

How to locate product keys

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2279109

or here

http://office.about.com/od/MicrosoftOfficeMac/a/Best-3-Ways-To-Find-Microsoft-Of fice-For-Mac-Key-Codes.htm

2. Then remove Office according to MS instructions

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768

Or go here to DianefromOregon's site for help removing Office 2011:

http://www.officeformachelp.com/2012/12/office-for-mac-2011-remove-office/

3. Reinstall Office 2011

4. Enter your Product #

5. Once Office 2011 is installed, update Office by going to Help menu within Word or Excel or PowerPoint and select Update.

I do not use Outlook and therefore I did not expect the MS update to do anything. However, since I do not use Outlook, the identity within the Microsoft User data was not important to me. I deleted the entire MS User data directory. I also deleted all Microsoft preference files located in the System preferences and the user preferences. I then logged out and back in. It seems to be a lot better so far. Not one freeze since.

I installed the 14.5.7 update and it did not resolve the issue. Outlook still crashes 8 - 10 times per day. This is beyond frustrating.

Word, Excel and PowerPoint all seem to work just fine, the problem appears to be confined to Outlook.

I've lost patience with it and am transitioning to Mail. I can't afford to spend any more time fooling with this silliness.

why? is MS office developed by Apple? MS worked with Apple on resolving issues with MSO2016, if MS had a vested interest in 2011 they would have fixed it to. They don't, they want your cash. If you have updated to El Cap for free MS thinks the money you saved could go to them when you upgrade from a 6 year old piece of software, that's two iterations back that they don't really seem to interested in supporting any longer.
