bootcamp on mac mini

So I have the windows 7 home premium dvd and an external optical drive and am trying to run the bootcamp on my mac mini. It has the new OS. I keep getting the error that the bootcamp assistant cant recognise the USB and is asking me to insert a USB. What do I do? Please help!

Yo have to create disk image as the Apple instuctions say:

includes

When you purchase Windows, it comes as a disk image file (ISO) that you download or as an installation disc or USB flash drive. If your copy of Windows came on a DVD or flash drive, you should create a disk image of it to work with Boot Camp.
