HP CM1312nfi MFP not scanning under Mac OS 10.11

I upgraded to Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan) and installed my (old) HP CM1312nfi MFP printer after. I can print over

the LAN, but it appears that I can't scan - HP Software is available for 10.7 (10.8 & 9 only firmware). Installing

the 10.7 full software package results in an error message, that the OS is not supported.

Any idea how to get this MFP to scan?

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

  1. Mount "HP-Color-LaserJet-CMXXXX-MFP-series_v1.5.0.dmg"
  2. Copy "HP CLJ CMXXXX MFP series v1.5.0.mpkg" to your desktop (it is important to copy this package to HDD so you can edit it)
  3. Right-click on the copied package and select "Show package content"
  4. Navigate to "Contents"
  5. Right-click on the "distribution.dist", select "Open with" and open this file with TextEdit or another text editor
  6. Find a line of code which looks like this (should be on beginning of the file):
    if(!(system.version.ProductVersion >= '10.5.0')) {
    and delete the exclamation mark "!" so the line should look like this:
    if((system.version.ProductVersion >= '10.5.0')) {
  7. Save and close text editor
  8. Now you CAN install this package on OS X 10.11 Yosemite - HP Director and HP Scan works like a charm

I followed your instructions, but the distribution file shows as locked and will not let me modify it or unlock it, only duplicate it. I have administrator permissions but am certainly not a mac expert. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I tried to do save over the file and it tells me the distribution file is read only. As you can tell I am not a mac expert
