Question about press-and-hold select to return home

I don't have a working Apple TV at the moment so I can't test this but I'm programming a universal remote and need some quick help, please.

I've read that you can press and hold the Select button for three seconds and it will take you back to the home screen/main menu. My question is, does it take you specifically to the top left item on the home screen? Or back to the last icon you selected? Or something else?

I'm looking for the fastest possible way to get to the (known starting point of the) top left of the home screen so that remote macros will be reliable and repeatable -- preferably without having to hit Menu a hundred times, then Up 20 times then right several times.

If someone with an Apple TV could test this for me and report back, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
