Safari is freezing up after typing in a URL after El Capitan upgrade

I'm able to type in a few chars into the URL before it freezes up. This didnt happen until after the El Capitan upgrade. I found some old threads of this happening on other OSes, followed those procedures, but it did not resolve the issue. My wife is getting mad 🙂

Aside from installing a new/different browser or creating a whole new account, does anyone have a fix for this? or something else to try?

Thanks

Luke

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Well, nothing appeared in the log at the time that Safari locked up.

But here is a clipping that happens every 10 seconds in the log, I doubt its related.

Yea, me too but have downgraded back to Mavericks and its better although still experience hangs with some pages. No plugins, no extensions and clean install. I finally installed Chrome, not a big fan but for now it works better and faster. Learned my lesson to wait before embracing new OS X or IOS. Now I have a messed iPhone and a Mac. Thank you Apple for releasing beta's to the masses.

I don't have time to mess with it. I just installed Chrome. Its probably a plugin or just plain web site compatibility issues or something that will get solved.

But in the mean time I'll just stop trying to figure it out. Seems every time a new version of Safari is released it breaks stuff? Doesn't appear to be a problem for everyone? But I use a browser a lot and need one that works. Not a huge fan of Chrome but again it works for now and does the job.

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Caches.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.
