Can I use my old iMac(late 2007) as a display for my new laptop?

I have an old iMac circa 2007 that could act as a great 2nd monitor for my laptop. It has a mini-DVI port, but no thunderbolt port. The laptop, a Macbook Pro 2013, is currently running Yosemite 10.10 and the iMac Snow-leopard 10.6.

The iMac probably doesn't have Target Display Mode (TDM). Does anyone know if using an iMac this old would actually work as a second monitor?

Thank you for your answers! 😎

Only with a product such as ScreenRecycler. All of these work over a network instead of a display connection.

The other option would be to use native Screen Sharing in OS X.

Regardless of what is used, screen write performance is going to

mediocre to fair at best and that is if you are using a gigabit ethernet

connection. WiFi connections will be even worse.

Best bet is to wipe the old iMac and sell it, donate it to a worthy cause (tax deductible),

or possibly repurpose is as a home server. The sell option may get a enough bucks to get

a half way decent monitor.
