My external hard disk was working fine but suddenly today it turned READ ONLY on Mac.
How can I make it writeable again without having to move all my files to another location, format then move back all the files.
so ridiculous ...

I'm curious what format is your dive? I can't imagine that there would be any other way. Use disk utility to duplicate the drive and then restore using read/write format. Hope your solve your issue.
it says Windows NT File System (NTFS)...
it was working even yesterday... but suddenly today, it became READ only. It's so weird.
Maybe while you have the drive plugged in go to Disk Utility in System Preferences and click 'Fix disk permissions' if you are using Yosemite. If your using El Capitan this option won't be available. Consider using FAT or Mac OS extended format instead. There might be issues using NTFS on mac.
Doing a search I find that mac is only able to read NTFS and not write to it. One of the links I found was:

You can follow the directions described in the link to enable writing to NTFS in mac.
I am unsure why you were able to read and write and then later only write.
I would defiantly consider moving your data to a format that is more compatible with mac as I suggested.

If the HDD is formatted NTFS and you do not want to reformat the HDD, you can use third party software such as Paragon or Tuxera that will allow you to write to the HDD.
