Q: Icloud for Windows does not work with Outlook 2016

I am running a pc with windows 10 and using iCloud for windows to interface with my outlook.

I upgraded to Outlook 2016 and had a problem so I ended up removing office completely and installing office 2016 from scratch.

When I try to associate my apple email account with outlook 2016 using iCloud for Windows it gives me an error that iCloud needs to be repaired.

I have done this several times and still get the same message, so I completely removed iCloud and reinstalled it directly from the Web. Same result.

Is there a fix for this or is this just a case of the iCloud product not yet upgraded to work with Outlook 2016?

I have been running iCloud 4.1 and Outlook 2016 for a few months and I had no issues, worked the same. ( I upgrade through Office 365 home and run Windows 10) On the 14th my computer updated to Windows 10 threshold 2 (no idea if it is now renamed 10.1?) when this happened Outlook 2016 stopped syncing to iCloud. I cannot upgrade iCloud to 5.0 either get an error message. I no longer have contacts in Outlook, which is a huge problem as I need my contacts for work.

As for "God's advocate" reply did you see the most recent Apple release in September? The spent a fair amount of time discussing their partnership with Microsoft Office and how the two systems would integrate seamlessly.. well that's crap. I do in fact read release notes on microsoft products before installing and they now run a pre-check on their big updates.. and there was NO MENTION of any issues with Outlook 2016 and iCloud.

I contacted Apple.. talked to tech support and they had no idea what I was talking about.. the guy was clueless which is really weird for an Apple tech support guy. I told him to go read the forums on here.

If you have things working well now.. do not upgrade to the late version of Windows 10. If you have not updated to Office 2016 don't.. although the new features are nifty.. not sure it's worth the hours I now have to put in to rebuild my 100s of contacts.

Hope Apple gets with it and releases a fully up to date compatible iCloud.

Exactly what I had note on my previous posts of October 27 and 30th. Now I am told by God's Advocate, as per his/her post of November 15th, that I shouldn't be complaining! Well, as things have shown there is a whole bunch of people, all over the world who are not simply complaining but literally furious against such a callous reaction on both Microsoft and Apple! And, as proven by the numerous postings, which are also meant to be read and react upon by Apple support technicians, at least, the problem goes unresolved for over a month now! In the meantime, both companies are foolishly bragging about their systems upgrade, whilst Apple technicians admit their ignorance or gross indifference to the problem. Sorry, this demonstrates a sheer lack of professionalism and renders the very existence of "Apple support communities" useless and time wasting,

While I agree that I do not like the changes in iCloud, I've not changed to Windows 10, or Office 2016 yet. I do know that iCloud v5 does not work with Office 2016, and that the capability to sync notes has been removed from iTunes v12.3. I hope that all of this gets rectified in the near future and I have submitted feedback for such. The feedback link is where Apple gets information, http://www.apple.com/feedback and not here on the forum. The forum is a user to user support site hosted by Apple, but Apple does not participate here, and they do not use it to "read and react" as you state. The "very existence" of the ASC is based on user to user support, so people using the software and devices can assist others.

I am providing this for information purposes, not judging your post.

Apple's attitude seems to be that people should decide between iOS and Outlook.  My choice is to go with Outlook.  My phone contract is up next week and this seems to be the time to switch to a Windows phone.

Apple's strategy of not supporting current Microsoft software may seem rational because the MacOS share of the PC market is so low that Apple has little downside risk to MacOS and will likely gain in MacOS market share as some people choose to abandon Windows and keep iOS.  But this may be what creates the critical mass needed for Windows phones to become a significant market force, threatening iOS.

This will be a classic business school case of how a company destroys its most profitable product.  It is just a bother to be involved.

A work around is to use the Windows 10 Calendar app. I've been able to sync my iCloud calendar using that on my PC.

    Hi jools2312,

I see you're wondering about iCloud for Windows to work with Outlook 2016 on your Windows PC.  Currently iCloud for Windows does not support Outlook 2016, however an update is coming out soon which will add the compatibility.  To learn more please take a look at the information below:

iCloud for Windows currently supports Outlook 2007 through Outlook 2013. Support for Outlook 2016 will be available in an updated release soon. If you use Outlook 2016, you can access iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars on iCloud.com.

Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support

    Have a good one.

Hi there, once again. Well, I'm afraid the version 5.0 of iCloud for Windows does not even support Outlook 2010, as per my earlier posts. I am also pretty suspicious that the flaw lies in its incompatibility with the newly launched Windows 10   . No problem encountered whatsoever in Windows 7 and Oulook 2010. just to  freshen up our memory a little bit.

I also heard yesterday from a Microsoft technician that a fix may be released by Apple in the next week or two.

We can use this thread to provide a heads-up to one another if a fix is released.  There is a similar thread in the Microsoft forums at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2016-outlook/outlook-2016 -syncing-contacts-and-calendars-with/ebd…  We can coordinate in both directions.

Hopefully these problems haven't messed up our Windows registries in a way that would prevent a fix from working.

I hope there is a solution very soon...I am still disappointed that a fix takes that much time irrespective of apple's or ms's faults related to this issue...

I have one question: if I use an outlook email in Outlook 2016 from Office 365 running on Win10 for my emails, calendar, contacts and task, can I syncronise emails, calendar, contacts and task with my iPhone and iPad without using iCloud at all?

I would use iCloud only to back up iPhone and iPad if it is not necessary to synch the Office 365 applications across devices

    @JPVice:

You can use the Outlook app for iOS to synchronize.  However, this doesn't work if you have POP email accounts.  They need to be IMAP.  I haven't tried this because I'm hoping that Apple will issue a fix for iCloud and don't want to go through the hassle of changing all my email accounts, but it is supposed to work.  However, the fact that iCloud doesn't work yet raises questions about Apple's ability or desire to maintain iCloud cross-platform capability.

Correct me if i'm wrong here, but isn't MS a minor shareholder in Apple (or vice-versa) ? If so, why wouldn't they maintain cross platform compatability?  Surely it would be in both their interests.

At one time Microsoft was a major stockholder of Apple, having bailed out Apple when it was near collapse.  I don't know if Microsoft has retained a significant amount of Apple stock.  More generally, the Apple-Microsoft relationship has both competitive and cooperative aspects.  Microsoft Office runs on MacOS, for example.  But Office is a Microsoft product, and Apple seems to have less interest or expertise in supporting iCloud on Windows.

This is the 3rd time I've experienced an inability to sync because of an iCloud-Office problem, beginning 2 years ago when USB sync stopped working.  Apparently Apple doesn't make support for windows a priority.  From Apple's attitude, I would not be surprised if after losing USB sync we will eventually lose iCloud sync as well, and the remaining options could be only using Outlook for iOS or using Exchange servers.

For the short term, we are fortunate that the rumors coming out of Apple and Microsoft suggest that iCloud sync with Outlook will be fixed soon.  The surprising thing is that I haven't seen any news coverage of this problem.  Computer sites are focused on publishing all the stories that can be written from company news releases, but there seems to be very little reporting of problems or warnings.  Why did no one write an article warning people not to upgrade to Windows 2016 until Apple fixed iCloud?  A publication that provided such information would fill an important niche.  However, that information seems to only be in support groups, and appears only after the problem has hit the fan.

My suspicions definitely lie with the latest iCloud update.

I was running two windows 10 machines with the Office 2016 version of Office 365.

For six weeks both worked well in Outlook with Contacts and Calendar details from iCloud being available in Outlook.

Task info did not worry me.

THEN on one PC  I allowed an Apple update to iTunes and iCloud...

Immediately Outlook lost connection to my important Contact and Calendat info !!

My second PC carried on happily and remembering how the first machine developed the problem I declined the offers to update the Apple software, especially when I noticed the vital phrase about does not work with Outlook 2016.   Outlook carried on happily until this weekend when unexpectedly Calendar and Contacts were no longer available.

I then found that the Apple software had been updated to the latest versions without my knowledge!!!

What were the iCloud version numbers for the affected and unaffected computers?

I have one computer reporting iCloud 4.0.2 with Windows 10 and Outlook 2016 that is affected.

I have one computer reporting iCloud 5.0 with Windows 7 and Outlook 2016 that is OK.
