Trackpad does not connect -new iMac - El Capitan
I just purchased a new iMac - the new keyboard and mouse connected beautifully, but my older trackpad does not

Are you trying to pair it while the mouse is connected. Even if you manage to, one will interfere with the other if they were in the the vicinity of each other ... and they can't both be used at the same time.
