Q: Airport Extreme Fan 6th Gen

Hi,

 

The last 2 weeks or so my AE starts blinking amber and the fan comes on really loud for about 10 seconds, then it goes back to green.  Is there any particular reason this is suddenly happening? The AE is in the bedroom, so I hear this whenever I'm in there.

    The internal power supply in the AirPort Extreme is overheating. Please return the AirPort Extreme for a replacement, since it is defective.

    A blinking amber light can indicate a possible configuration issue; however, the behavior you're experiencing sounds a little bit hardware related. I assume the AirPort device is not cover by a blanket or anything. I'd suggest to factory default reset and reconfigure your device.

    Thanks for the info.  I'm going to try and get it to the store and hopefully they can do something for me even though it appears to be out of warranty.  I would think a router this expensive should last well beyond 2 years given I had an old Linksys that still works and it's going on 10.
