this article may help with the selection:

OS X Yosemite: select files or folders

To select a file or folder, move the pointer over the item, then click it.

To select multiple files or folders, hold down the Command (⌘) key, then click the items.

To select multiple files or folders that are listed together, click the first item you want to select, hold down the Shift key, then click the last item.

You can also click near the first item, hold down the mouse or trackpad button, then drag over all of the items.

Once the items are selected, drag them to the destination.

The default for the SAME disk is that they will be MOVED.

The default for different disks is that they will be REPLICATED at the destination without removing the originals from the source.

To change the default, hold down the Option key before you start to drag the group of files.
