With all new releases of Mac OS there are teething troubles with specific applications, thats just how things are.

Try deleting Keynote then re-installing from the Mac App Store

The golden rules of upgrading the OS are:

  • if there are no compelling reasons to upgrade, don't. Your Mac will still work perfectly well without upgrading
  • create an additional backup of everything on your Mac (preferably a bootable clone of the existing drive)
  • never update while existing projects will be edited
  • never upgrade without fully testing the new OS, using a second drive or a second Mac
  • always perform a clean install when upgrading (repartition the drive to erase all files then install the upgrade)
  • use a second bootable drive if you must upgrade mid project
  • if you are unable to do any of the above, do not upgrade

If you have the same problem when opening the Font Book, then there's a corrupted font causing the problem. We had the problem with the font "Fedra Sans Screen".

- backup the fonts in ~/Library/Fonts

- deleted all the fonts in ~/Library/Fonts

- problem should be solved

You can add the fonts then again (in Font Book) and you will see which ones causing troubles.

Apparently, Mac OS X 10.11 does not check the fonts while upgrading from Yosemite.

Hi M,

Sorry to have kept you waiting.

No, the uninstall (with a Dr. Cleaner help) of Keynote/Pages/Numbers

and the APP STORE install didn't change a thing.

Meanwhile I received (out of the bleu) a mail from

The iWork Team / 23038829 - iwork@apple.com

asking to do:

System Diagnostics Report

1. Launch Keynote.

2. Go to Applications > Utilities and launch Activity Monitor.

3. In the column titled Process Name, click on the app name.

4. Click on the ‘Gear’ icon pull down menu and select Run System Diagnostics.

3. Attach the resulting tar.gz file in your reply.

I sent them my Problem Report. I hope it wasn't Phising!

No feedback from them yet ; - )

The Keynote update (App Store v 6.6) did trigger something

(the NEW / OPEN FILE screen popped up), but I soon got a Keynote quit unexpectedly "KaBoom":

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)

Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000031c5751cc

Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIF

I don't like the CORPSE thing : - )

So, no, the re-re-re-install of the iLife/iWork suite didn't help me out.

MS Office ***** big time : - )

I reinstalled also. No help.

The only way I was able to open my existing Keynote file was to launch the app, and choose "new document". Oddly, the new document wouldn't show up but I would be able to open my existing work document after this. Very strange.

I was also having other issues with my MacBook (MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)) so I decided to do a clean install of El Capitan. A major last resort endeavor.

That cleared up the Keynote problem. It no longer crashes on open. It also solved my other issues with sluggishness and the fan running all the time.
