I am presuming this is a virus- but it started shortly after I installed the new Capitan software???
Is there a way to remove all duplicates recently made- instead of manually going to thousands of files to determine?
I was using MicroTend---but am asking
What virus scanner would everyone recommend?

No virus scanner/cleaner etc. should be installed. They just cause problems.
I myself would reinstall OSX from a backup made before you installed MicroTrend
files duplicating and almost made my my book pro retina disk space full
