I have an early macbook - the IOs only goes to 10.5.8 - any recommendations for malware app?

Malwarebytes does not support.

There still are some of the original manual removal methods for adware and other maladies

in The Safe Mac - Tech Guides (now part of malwarebytes) with link to all three sections, as

they are presented in the following web page, under Malware Guide, Adware removal guide

and Performance guide. An earlier Adware Removal Tool no longer exists, it had limited use

then was replaced by Adware Medic some time ago.

Of note are the sections where identifying malware-like products, or adware symptoms appear.

If you are seeing troubles such as suggested in this Support site, some of the information may

not be viable for an older system where the thrust is for newer OS X, but look and see what is

workable for your older OS X version. (A MacBook, early model, can use Snow Leopard 10.6.8)

• Stop pop-up ads and adware in Safari - Apple Support

You probably aren't still using outdated Safari, when Firefox is still supported in Snow Leopard.

If you are not running 10.6.8, you can buy the retail DVD from Apple online for about $20.

Other browsers can be affected by adware; when evidence is present, there are similar methods

of removal and the Tech Guides manual methods may still work for you in an older OS X version.

If you are still dealing with Leopard 10.5.8, and haven't upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8, that

is a better system for the early model MacBook, and early Mac OS X applications can do OK.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
