Q: 2009 iMac runs Yosemite but won't update!

My iMac is running OS X yosemite, I tried to update to El Capitan but it won't. I tried reinstalling Yosemite to get it to resume updating but Capitan seems to be stuck and won't download. Is there anything I'm missing? I've been trying to update this for about 4 days now, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can someone help? Thanks!

    Hi there skyla429,

It sounds like you're having some issues downloading El Capitan.

I would start by restarting the computer and trying again. This sounds simple, but it's where I would start.

If it persists after you restart the computer, I would next delete the El Capitan installer from your Applications folder, download it again from the Mac App Store, and install it again. There may have been something wrong with the installer when it was downloaded initially.

The attached steps explain how to download El Capitan again from the Purchased section of the Mac App Store.

Mac App Store: Finding your purchased apps

Apps purchased via the Mac App Store

When purchased via the Mac App Store, apps are installed in the Applications folder. Icons for purchased apps are automatically placed in the current user's Dock. There is also a purchases tab in the Mac App Store where you can see all of your Mac App Store downloads.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
