How to remove brown screen for movies "Play from Beginning" vs "Resume"

Whenever I try to continue watching a movie, I get this horrible brown screen that covers my entire itunes window. Why can't I just open and watch a movie without having to be forced to click one of these boxes? Perhaps they think this is a convenience, but it is super annoying. I can't imagine having to do this every time I wanted to continue listening to a song, so WHY do we have to do it with movies? I am smart enough to know how to start a movie over if I want, just like most itunes users know how to start a song over.
