I have an Iphone 6 and in my email inbox I click edit and the trash all button is not clickable. How do change the settings so that I can delete all in my inbox?

My phone is and Iphone 6. I go into my email inbox and I want to trash all mail at once. However, when I click edit the trash all button is not clickable. What do I need to do to make it trash all?
