Assistive touch not working ios 9 iPad mini

I upgraded to iOS 9 and now the Assistive touch is not working. I have shut down completely and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

Very that Assistive Touch is in fact enabled (some settings can get reset after iOS updates)

Settings/General/Accessibility/AssistiveTouch and turn this setting ON

Also try a forced restart of the device:

Force Restart (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)

1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button

2. Press and hold the Home button

3. Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off, then back on displaying the Apple logo.
