Q: Airdrop Mac Pro --> MacBook Air is a one way street

Hello,

I have a problem with airdrop between my Mac Pro (Early 2009, 4,1 with Airport Extreme Card, Yosemite 10.10.5) and my MacBook Air (Mid 2013, 6,2, El Capitan 10.11). If I open the Airdrop windows on both Macs nothing happens. Allow me to be discovered by everyone is on, Firewalls are off. If I click "Don't see what you're looking for?" on the MacBook Air and click "Search for an Older Mac" the MacBook Air is magically recognized by the Mac Pro, but not the other way around. The MacBook Air's Finder window stays empty. This also was true for the time when I still had Yosemite installed on the MacBook Air, so no El Capitan bug.

What to do?

    This article has details:

Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac - Apple Support

My thoughts, based on what you've told us:

    • Have you turned on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both Macs?
    • Check that the Mac Pro does not have "Block all incoming connections" set (as described in the article).
    • Did you try "Don't see what you're looking for?" on the Mac Pro?

Hello and thank you for your reply!

WiFi and Bluetooth is turned on, Firewalls are both off, and strangely enough there's no "Don't see what you're looking for" option available on the Mac Pro! I'm running out of ideas here... If I send something from the Mac Pro to the MacBook Air, the Mac Pro appears in the AirDrop window of the MacBook Air as long as the file is transferred. When it's done, gone!
