Reminders are not going off after IOS 9 update, please help!

After the latest IOS 9 update my reminders will not go off on my iphone 5s. I put them in there and add the time I want them to remind me and it shows it all in there but will not actually alert me when I need it to. If you close out reminder screen after you have put your reminder in and go back in it shows the subject of what I need it to but its like I never typed in a date and time for it to remind me of something. I absolutely live by my reminders so I need this function to work. PLEASE HELP!
