saving images from internet

I have tried twice to save an image from the internet on my IPad. Each time I have received a "saved to camera roll" message, but...camera roll is no more, One forum I checked said that a "recently added" album in the photos area would be where I could find the images, but no "recently added" album shows up on any of my three Apple devices.

Is it now simply impossible to save images from the internet on IPad. I have faithfully--slavishly?--upgraded as Apple requests, so I'm running IOS 9.0.2 on an IPad that I bought in 2012--whatever version that was.
