How was the Harry Potter iBooks created?

So I'm the kind of person who likes to know how things are created, and after seeing all the hype today with the new "enhanced editions" of Harry Potter I'm curious. These seem to be very very different than any normal iBook. Even then, it seems very very different from any interactive iBook too. So how were they created? Any ideas?
