Why copy? You can open .doc/.docx documents in Pages. Note that Word for Mac opens/edits/saves Word documents in their native document architecture. Pages does not, as open and export are translations from/to Word format.

You may find that copy/paste from an open Word document in Word for Mac — into an open Pages document may not conveniently obey paste, or paste matching style. You may find yourself pasting into TextEdit, and then from TextEdit back into Pages. Your mileage will vary.

Frankly, if I had Word installed, I wouldn't bother with Pages v5.5.3 as it is woefully dysfunctional.
