mts files causes spinning wheel

I have only just started to get my head around FCX...

I am getting the spinning wheel every time I try to look at the imported mts files.

Do I need to convert them, and if so what is the best way retaining quality?

Could this possibly be that the library is on my new 6TB (please don't say it is....) WD My book?

Other files in other formats are working fine within the project stored the same place.

Editing using Proxy files...

I am running OS X Yosemite on an Mid 2010 iMac

Processor:2,93 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB
