how to delete block of text?

iOS 9.0.2 won't let me delete a block of text by touch the upper left corner of the text with one finger and the lower right corner with another finger.

I've never seen selecting text in that manner. Once you have one finger on the screen, the other will not register, unless it is one of the specific actions that you do with more than one finger. If you double tap on a single work, it should select that and then you can select either All text, or you can hold one of the blue buttons and drag that box around more text, then when the menu pops up, select Cut.
