Unable to connect to NAS Shared Folder in Finder

After upgrading to El Capitan I have encountered a problem when trying to open a shared drive on my NAS (Synology DS412) in Finder.

In Finder I can see the NAS in the Shared section, I can click on it and it says "connecting". It then lists the folders available, however when I select it to open the folder, Finder closes and I get the following error - "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "Shared Folder" can't be found."

I can access the shared folder on the NAS by going via "Go>Connect to Server" and selecting it there, however I would really like it to work in Finder again as it is quite annoying.

This was working perfectly prior to upgrading and nothing else has changed on the NAS front.

I'm an OSX noob, so please explain anything I can try in simple terms.

So far I have relaunched Finder, deleted com.apple.finder.plist, and rebooted all Windows computers on network and the NAS.

Ok. Had the same problem with my Synology, and fixed it on El Capitan 10.11.4. OS X will auto-negotiate SMB1/2/3 mount requests, and my Synology DSM software was somewhat out of date, and set to share max SMB1, because until recently, there was an XP box in the house. Once I made the changes below, I could access the folders previously blocked by Finder.

Steps:

  1. Sign-in to your Synology as admin.
  2. Click on Control Panel
    1. Providing that you are running DSM 5.2+

      Click File Services

      1. Windows File Service section
        1. You want the Max protocol for Windows File Service set to: Enable SMB3
        2. Apply
    2. If not DSM 5.2+
      1. Click Update & Restore
      2. Update to 5.2-5644 and reboot
      3. Update to 5.2-5644 Update 5 (as of 3/26/2016) and reboot
  3. Done with Synology
  4. Reboot OS X clients
  5. In Finder : Shared, click on DiskStation, and the mounted folders that upset Finder before are now clickable without error.
