App Store update icons grey/missing

Yes I see this on all our devices (iPhone 6 plus, iPad 2nd gen, 2 iPad minis). It's been an issue for a while I think. Maybe since iOS 8 introduced last year or started in one of the endless point updates released.

This morning there were some app updates and the boxes are staying grey even after scrolling them off screen and then back again. So this is a new issue ontop of what you describe. It's happening on all our devices so I can only assume this second issue is a server side/apple problem. It's not a big deal but annoying and not aesthetically appealing.

Yes, all six of the updated apps I was notified of this morning are missing their icons, which remain grey.

And each time I launch the App Store on my iPhone 6s (running iOS 9.0.2), initially all the other previously updated apps have a grey box where their icon should be. As has been noted, seemingly swiping up and down through this list restores the correct icons - and it seems as if you have to totally remove them from sight before swiping back up again for them to re-appear. And you need to do this in small batches.

That said, none of the six updated apps from today and four of the many that were updated over the last few days have had their icon restored. So I don't know why these ten aren't appearing at all.

Also - but this has only happened once today - when I searched for a new app, all the icons from the search results were missing, along with all their example screen shots. All replaced with grey icons or placeholder boxes.

Thanks for your input. Seems a widespread issue. I guess many won't notice it but hopefully Apple is aware and will fix it because its pretty annoying.

I'm having the same issue on both my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6. I also have the issue where the App Store badge app icon is stuck on a number of updates available when in fact all apps are updated. Frustrating.

I have sent a link to this conversation to Apple Support, so should have their first comment back within 48 hours, which I'll share with you all.

Since today in the morning I have the same problem. All new updates apps are greyed out :-(

I also have this exact problem on my iPhone 4S & iPad Air (1), both on iOS 9.0.2. I'm a bit OCD and it is causing me some difficulty. Really glad I found this thread as I was just about to factory reset my iPhone to see if I could resolve it.

Please Apple, fix ASAP to help with my issues.

I also had this problem since October 9th after installing IOS 9.0.2 on my iPad Air. Has anybody discovered a solution yet?

Yep, same issue here, on an iPhone 6 with iOS 9.0.2... 😟 Since 2 days all the icons for updates in the App store are grey (both before and after updating). What's more, touching the name of the app in order to go to the relevant app store page will give me a store page where the icon is also missing, yet going to the same page through store search results will give a 'correct' page with the app icon present... Nevertheless, updates go through without a problem and updated apps have their icons and work without issues. Very strange...

I dont think thi was caused by iOS9.0.2, I have had several OK updates since I updated, it is only in the last 2 days I have been getting grey icons. Beginning to look like issues at the Apple servers.

I have the exact same problem as well on iPhone 6 iOS 9.0.2. Grey icons for all my updated apps.

Same problem here in Germany (German AppStore) on all my iOS devices: plain grey app icons in the updates list. Sometimes the AppStore main page ("Featured") is missing content, too. See this screenshot missing the content below the headlines "Best New Apps" and "Best New Games":

I am experiencing the same problem on both my iPhone 6s and iPad3. Both using 9.0.2. Just appeared several days ago.

I am seeing this also, for all 09 OCT 2015 updates (US east coast). 08 OCT 2015 and earlier appear fine. Strange.
