iphone 5 died w/ battery save mode and wont turn back on

My iphone5 was at 1% with the battery saving mode on. It stayed at 1% while on the charger for 30 minutes, now almost 2 hours. I turned it off and was going to turn it back on to see if that would help. However, now it won't turn back on and says it's charging. My charger is relatively new. I know it takes a while for your phone to get the juice to turn back on after being dead for a while, but my phone wasn't dead. Anyone know how to help?
