Unable to edit, delete, or add to playlists

iPod shuffle w/HP Envy. When connected they say they are "syncing", the library from my iPod shows up in iTunes on my laptop and I can play the songs. I cannot move or delete the songs (R-click doesn't give option for edit/move/delete & backspace+delete doesn't do anything), I cannot change folder names, I can see & play the new album I bought but cannot move it to the iPod or the lap top. I cannot get any of the music to transfer to my laptop. Please help!
