unable to apply combo update

Macbook Pro mid 2012

8 gb 1600mhz

480 Tb SSD Mercury Extreme Pro

750 gb Aplle hdd in optical bay

10.9.5

I downloaded the combo 10.9.5 update to try to fix some little bugs. I ran disk utility to fix permissions. When I run the mkpg, it will not allow me to select my boot disk. I rebooted and and uninstalled all startup programs then ran onyx and cleaned every cache. The result is the same. The combo update will not allow me to select my boot disk. Any ideas?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), 15 inch Macbook Pro 9.1(mid 2012)

try booting into the Safe Mode to see if you can install it there, Any error message/reason given why you can't select your boot disk?

No, error message at all. The disk just has the little exclamation point showing it can't be selected. I will try safe mode.

I tried Target mode from another 10.9.5 laptop. I tied safe mode. I downloaded the non combo update and tried that. It is like the installer doesn't recognize that my installations are 10.9.5

I had to do a complete recovery install to fix the issue.
