RAM recommendations for El Capitan

I have a 24 inch mid 2007 which only has a capability of 4 GB of RAM which I have installed. 8 GB is the recommended amount of RAM for the installation of El Capitan. What problem(s) will I run into if I install El Capitan? Am I better off just staying with Yosemite?
