iPad2 update to iOS 9, Mac OS 10.6 with iTunes 11.4

Well this is not going well.

I left to go touring around Valencia with the update running nicely.

• MacBook is running OS 10.6.8
• iPad 2 (32Gb) was running iOS 8.4 and I was updating to 9.0.2
• iTunes 11.4 for the update.

I want to restore the iPad from the back up and the system messages reads I need to upgrade iTunes to restore. I am running SnowLeaopard 10.6.8 on on early 2008 MacBook.

I only need a few files from Adobe Reader on the iPad. They are backed up. Should I rescue the files from the back up in folder found at Library>> Application Support >> MobileSync >> BackUp? Not sure how to, but the files are pdf's.

or

Transfer the files to another computer running iTunes 12 and restore from there?

The Apple Store here is locked down with a two block line up selling iPhone6s...
