Q: iPad mini 4 iOS 9 problems setting up messages

Purchased a week ago, have it set up but messages won't work. I have tried adding my email address but it keeps sticking on verify. When I try to add my phone number the keyboard is missing () and the dash -

Should I just do a reset or has anyone else had this problem with a different fix.

Hi
Email should work on ipad but if you are talking about
Text messages they only work on phones.
Imessage only works between Apple devices .
