I just finished upgrading to El-Capitan and the very first thing i went to do was to get the latest updates. When i go to sign in it just sits there looping. I know it's the correct password but it just doesn't push through to completing the sign in process. What's going on?

I'll give that a try, but how am i supposed to have anti-virus protection with el-capitan?
You don't need to use anti-virus software with a Mac.
Never download and install software from sketchy sources and you will be fine.
I was using clamxav and sophos. I removed them both and im still having the same problem.
