Latest download of Java jre-8u60-macosx-x64-2.dmg caused Norton weekly update to fail. Ran Java test which confirmed it was up to date latest version. Had same problem with Yosemite & Java, had to remove it and re-instal an earlier version which worked. Hasn't worked this time with El Capitan. Message keeps showing To use the "java" command-line tool you need to instal a JDK. What is a JDK?
Any ideas please?

It looks like you see a message in El Capitan that says you need to install a JDK.
In general terms, the JDK (or Java Development Kit) is software used to develop and run Java applications.
To clear up this message on your Mac, try this version of Java for OS X offered by Apple--Java for OS X 2015-001. It should install the necessary components in El Capitan.

Try removing the Norton software. Most likely it is doing more harm than good.
Try uninstalling the above using the Developer's uninstall instructions.
