Suddenly, outgoing texts are showing at the recipient's phone as being from my iCloud account rather than my phone number. How can I get it to appear to be from my phone number?

Beginning a few days ago, people would reply to my texts asking "who is this?" I discovered that their incoming SMS was showing as from my iCloud address rather than from the phone number by which they knew me in their contacts. (I don't use my iCloud email address very much.) This causes an extra level of confusion and I would like to be able to tell my phone to send SMS msgs from my phone number instead of my iCloud account, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Its iMessage (not SMS) and you go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Make sure your phone number has a check mark next to it in the top section. If it does not, go back one page and turn iMessage off then back on. you should see "waiting for activation". That message will disappear once the number is activated and the Send & Receive section should show your phone number with a check mark. Once your number has a checkmark, change the "Send new messages from" section at the bottom to your phone number. If you get an iMessage activation error at any point, follow these steps: If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support
