You would have to talk to Verizon and see - do you already have a Verizon account or would this be a new one?
Yes, but why? It costs the same as the Verizon version, and the Verizon version is unlocked at the GSM side as well. If you are going to use Verizon, why not use that version? Verizon now supports BYOD, but it is not really necessary to do this if all you are looking for is a device you can use on another carrier, since you can do that with the Verizon version.
Can't seem to get my hands on the Verizon version and also would like to be able to use it overseas when I travel.
You can use the Verizon model overseas, the GSM side is not locked.
As deggie stated they both work as I said earlier. Are you having issues with stock? You can order the Verizon version from Verizon, or Apple. Someone is bound to have it, but if it is that difficult, then go ahead and purchase the SIM free. You just have to go through the BYOD activation with Verizon.

At this time, the only non-Verizon phones Verizon will support are the iPhone 6 and 6+. The 6S might work but I wouldn't count on it. It's theoretically possible that the 6S will work on the 4G LTE network but not on Verizon's CDMA network.
Thank you for that update Meg. 🙂
If I had to guess, I'd say that the 6S and 6S+ should work but I wouldn't want to be held responsible if they didn't. I haven't had the opportunity to test those phones yet.
