user name and password is not recognised on macbook air

i bought a macbook air didnt really use it for a while then decided must give it a go. Tried to use it wanted to download adobe it prompted me for user and password, asked the guy who i bought it from he said use user and password but not recognised it is not a stolen device i believe it is a refurbished one anyone please help
