Oct 12, 2015 11:17 AM in response to Eric Rootby Jornco,After installing El Capitan lost function of scanner for my HP Photosmart C309a Printer (functions), Fax (functions), Scanner does not show up in System Preferences. This is an HP driver problem as everything functioned before installing El Capitan and I don't I should need to buy an app (if that's possible) to make the scanner work now.

Oct 21, 2015 7:20 AM in response to Jorncoby Flavio Muscetra,The HP drivers are not compatible for some scanners and printers with OSX El Capitan. In my case I cannot use anymore the HP Scanner G4010.
I've tried Image Capture that is the app I use normally to scan and also Vuescan. Both don't work.
Lucky me I have another boot disk with Yosemite that is still compatible with my HP scanner.
Practically when I need the scanner I have to boot with Yosemite instead of El Capitan and it works fine.
The only hope is that Apple release a OS upgrade with the new drivers because HP support representatives in HP forums say the driver is not available.

Dec 12, 2015 11:41 PM in response to Eric Rootby Yachttie,Hi
I have same problem. I have HP C5280. It won't work with Vuescan with El Capitan. Worked fine with Yosemite. Vuescan crashes before opening. Have tried uninstalling/re-installing printer but no luck.
Image Capture still works ok.
Have corresponded with Hamrick but they have no answer.

Jan 14, 2016 12:00 AM in response to donnapfby Olive66,I have the same problems with both a G3010 and G4010 scanners. I have installed and re-installed whatever software I can find on the hp site for OS-X but no gain. None of the associated software e.g. Adobe, Image Capture etc. can find the scanner. But I have on two occasions noted that the scanner was found and once it scanned a page, then wouldn't work again. After a month of trying I now take photos and copy them , but that is so slow. Both scanners used to work reasonably well with OS-X, so I suspect this is an El-Capitan problem. I have no problem in using HP laser printers, though for a while the duplex printer would only print on one side, then after several re-boots it let me use duplex. I have also tried using windows drivers under Parallels Desktop, but no gain - I guessed that wouldn't work as it is supposed to pick up the drivers being used by OS-X. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jan 26, 2016 1:58 PM in response to Jorncoby FredB-SD,Using Scanjet 4890 and the latest HP Scan software (Version 2.4.4 (3))
Scanner is recognized, however once I click the button in the window to scan, the software crashes. I can print just fine to my HP Laserjet 4050TN (probably since I'm using it through ethernet) just can no longer scan.

Feb 9, 2016 3:47 AM in response to Olive66by ElizabethfromHerefordshire,I can't print in duplex with my HP Photosmart Premium since installing El Capitan (11.3). I'm desperate as I need this for a project next week. Can anyone help? I'm not technically-minded so need layman-speak, please!

I've just found the solution to mine - http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-2700-All-in-One-Printer-series /391138/model/391140/document/c01935823/ - I obviously couldn't locate the duplex setting earlier.

May 30, 2016 2:43 PM in response to Jorncoby Vernonya,There is a problem with Canon scanners too. Apparently it is Apple's fault, with El Capitan, Apple introduced a new, or improved level of security. There is a way to get round it, but you have to turn off that security level and, of course, you are turning off anything else that it may be protecting. The printer manufacturers cannot write a new upgrade because, even it it were possible, it would be turning off a security level...This is down to Apple who have, so far, been pretty tardy in issuing a patch

May 30, 2016 4:43 PM in response to Vernonyaby Olive66,Thanks for that insight. Apple should fix it as I've now one scanner HP G3010 that will not work with anything we have tried, while the G4010 does sort of work, but only with Image Capture, whereas previously it would work with the Adobe CS5.
Do you know if this problem affects Epson?
