Q: Problem updating to iOS 9.0.2

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me.  I updated my phone with no problems, but every time I try to update my iPad it goes through the motions, then I get a message, "Software Update Failed - an error occurred downloading 9.0.2".  I've tried numerous times, I have plenty of spare memory, I've tried a hard reset, but no dice.  Ive looked around here on the Forums but found nothing that fixed the problem.

I wish these error messages would give you something to go on.

thanks!

Are you attempting to update OTA, or via the device? Or are you trying to update via iTunes. If you are trying OTA, then try connecting the device to the computer and iTunes. It could be a problem with your internet connection.

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for helping.

I was trying to update direct to my device, so I gave doing it via iTunes on my laptop a go.  I tried a few times, but it just goes through the lengthy process then gives me a message saying "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPad...An unknown error occurred (9006).  It said to check my network is active and network settings are correct but I've been using my wifi all morning with no issues.

Try resetting your Network Settings on your iPad & rebooting your modem.

SInce you had already tried an OTA update, it may still be sitting on your iPad & causing issues,

Open Settings->General->Storage & iCloud Usage,  under 'Storage' select Manage Storage'.  Scroll through the list and look for the downloaded iOS update.  If it's there, delete it & then try updating again.

Unfortunately still no luck. Thank you for the ideas, though.

The error you reported is listed in this support document. Get help with iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

It generally has to do with security software issues. Follow the steps listed in the support document and see if that helps. Continue as needed and contact Apple Support if necessary.

    Check your security software

    Errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006.

Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.

Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.

If you still see the error message, check for USB connection issues.
