Photos in El Capitan consumes lots of RAM

I`m working on some RAW photos and the RAM just comes down to less than 512 Mb, even less than that and the the macbook starts to heat up a lot! I have to close photos and wait. Theres no other app open. What can I do?

My macbook is mid 2012, 2.5 GHz intel core i5 with 10 Gb RAM

Help!

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

While working with RAW files in Photos check Activity Monitor to see what process is taking up the most CPU cycles.

Also download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here (and recommended by Apple Support personnel) in the ASC to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.
